Equipment
1 9x13 inch baking pan
1 1/2" inch heart-shaped cookie cutter
2 parchment paper sheets
Ingredients
5 1/2cupsRice Krispies Cereal
4tablespoonsunsalted butter
10ouncesmarshmallowsfresh
1pinchsalt
1/2cupsemi-sweet chocolatechopped
1/4cupvalentine themed sprinkles
Instructions
Start by lining the sides and bottom of an 13-inch pan with parchment paper. Measure the rice cereal and place it in a large bowl. Set aside.
5 1/2 cups(154g) Rice Krispies Cereal
Over a large saucepan, melt butter, marshmallows and salt in medium-low heat stirring constantly, until you have completely melted marshmallows.
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, 10 ounces(283.5g) marshmallows, 1 pinch salt
Stir in the marshmallow mixture to the rice cereal and mix carefully, coating all of the cereal with the marshmallow cream.
Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and use a small piece of wax paper to press the cereal mixture into the pan, until an even layer forms. Let cool completely, for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Pull the parchment paper from the sides, taking the cereal treats out of the pan and place them in a cutting board. Cut them into 24 even squares. Using a 1/2" heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut small heart shapes in one corner of each of the squares.
Drizzle each treat with melted chocolate halfway and add sprinkles, place in a cooling rack or on top of a piece of parchment paper and let the chocolate set completely before stacking or serving.
1/4 cup(40g) valentine themed sprinkles
Notes
Use clean hands to work with the cereal mixture for better control. Hands full of sticky marshmallow will make the treats stick very easily, making them hard to work with
Use fresh marshmallows, old marshmallows don't melt as well
Use butter instead of margarine to avoid soggy treats. If margarine is a must, reduce to 3 Tablespoons instead.
Melt the marshmallow mixture slowly, mixing constantly and avoid high heat. Melting with high heat could end up in too crispy marshmallows.
Measure the ingredients correctly and do not eye-ball it!
