How to make these Valentine’s Rice Krispie Treats
This fun dessert is super simple to make, requires just a few steps and there’s no oven involved.
Start by lining the sides and bottom of an 13-inch pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
Measure the rice cereal and place it in a large bowl. Set aside.
Over a large saucepan, melt butter, marshmallows and salt in medium-low heat stirring constantly, until you have completely melted marshmallows.
Stir in the marshmallow mixture to the rice cereal and mix carefully, coating all of the cereal with the marshmallow cream.
Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and use a small piece of wax paper to press the cereal mixture into the pan, until an even layer forms. Let cool completely, for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Pull the parchment paper from the sides, taking the cereal treats out of the pan and place them in a cutting board. Cut them into 24 even squares. Using a 1/2″ heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut small heart shapes in one corner of each of the squares.
Using a double broiler or the microwave (here are some tips on how to melt chocolate correctly), melt the chocolate, then place it on a piping bag or a zip lock bag, and cut a small hole in the corner. Drizzle each treat with melted chocolate halfway and add sprinkles, place in a cooling rack or on top of a piece of parchment paper and let the chocolate set completely before stacking or serving.
