Why you’ll like this recipe

  • Concerned about your sugar intake? Opting for a skinny version allows you to enjoy the flavor of vanilla without compromising on taste while keeping your sugar levels in check. The emphasis on “skinny” implies less sugar in the recipe, making it a healthier option for those who want to enjoy a sweetened coffee beverage without the excess sugar content. It’s a great option instead of your regular vanilla latte.
  • Skinny Vanilla Lattes are a popular drink among coffee lovers, and making your espresso-based drink at home can save you much money compared to buying it from coffee shops.

Ingredients you’ll need for this hot Skinny Vanilla Latte

This recipe needs only 4 basic ingredients, found in any grocery store:

  1. Nonfat milk. Non-fat milk serves as the base, providing a light and creamy foundation for our Skinny Vanilla Latte. For those opting for plant-based milks, feel free to substitute it with coconut milk, unsweetened almond milk, oat milk, or soy milk. You can also choose low-fat milk instead.
  2. Pure Vanilla extract. Pure Vanilla extract takes center stage in flavoring this skinny version of a traditional latte. Rather than making a sugar-free vanilla syrup, I’ve opted for simplicity with pure vanilla extract to give the vanilla flavor.
  3. Espresso. The heart of any good latte! It adds a robust and invigorating coffee flavor.
  4. Sweetener. There are many artificial sweeteners and natural sweeteners available, allowing you to tailor your Skinny Vanilla Latte to your personal preference. In this recipe, I’ve considered a sweetener with a 1:1 ratio with regular sugar

How to make this Skinny Latte Recipe

This recipe is incredibly easy and delicious, requiring just a few simple steps.

Start by pouring 3/4 cup of warm milk into your cup. Add vanilla extract, shots of espresso, and your sweetener of choice, then give it a good mix

Grab your milk frother and tilt the bowl, moving the frother up and down in the remaining milk until a nice foam forms.

Top your latte with this frothy goodness, add your favorite topping, and enjoy while it’s still hot. Simple, tasty, and perfect for a quick homemade latte experience!

Expert Tips

  • For perfect frothing, ensure the milk is warm but not boiling, and use a high-quality frother or handheld wand to create a velvety foam
  • The quality of your ingredients matters, especially if there are only 4 of them! use good quality Pure Vanilla extract, and not just vanilla essence.
  •  Elevate your Skinny Vanilla Latte by using espresso instead of regular coffee. The concentrated nature of espresso provides a bolder and more robust coffee flavor, enhancing the overall taste experience of your latte.
  • Top your latte with a dusting of cinnamon, a bit of cocoa powder, or a drizzle of sugar-free caramel. These simple touches not only make it look better but also add a little extra flavor to your Skinny Vanilla Latte.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Skinny Vanilla Latte?

Skinny Vanilla Latte is a hot Espresso with skim milk, vanilla, and frothed milk on top

Can I use plain coffee instead of espresso?

Absolutely! Feel free to use regular strong coffee instead of espresso in your Skinny Vanilla Latte. It might have a slightly different flavor profile (espresso has a stronger coffee flavor), but it will still be a tasty and lighter alternative to the classic latte. Just make sure your coffee is brewed strong to maintain the richness in your skinny Latte.

Can I make my latte into an iced Skinny Vanilla Latte instead?

Absolutely! You can definitely turn your Skinny Vanilla Latte into an iced version. Just let the milk and coffee cool down, then pour them over some ice. It’s a great way to enjoy a refreshing Iced Skinny Vanilla Latte – perfect for when you want something cool and light.

You can also pour the double shot of espresso into an ice cube tray and freeze it. Mix the ingredients with cool milk instead of hot. Add the frozen espresso cubes to the prepared cool milk and enjoy.

How do I froth milk without a frother?

If you don’t have a frother, you can achieve a frothy texture by shaking warmed milk vigorously in a jar or using a French press.

Are there any alternatives to Vanilla extract?

If you don’t have vanilla extract, sugar-free syrup or even a vanilla-flavored creamer can be used.

How do you make espresso?

There are a few ways to make espresso, here are 3:

  1. Espresso Machine:
    • The most traditional and widely used method involves an espresso machine. It uses pressure to force hot water through finely ground coffee, producing a concentrated shot of espresso. Espresso machines come in various types, including manual, semi-automatic, and automatic machines, each offering different levels of control over the brewing process.
  2. Aeropress:
    • The Aeropress is an affordable option for making espresso-like coffee. Use a fine grind, add coffee and hot water to the Aeropress chamber, and then press the plunger through a filter to extract the coffee. While it may not have the same pressure as an espresso machine, the result is a strong and rich coffee concentrate.
  3. Moka Pot:
    • A Moka Pot, also known as a stovetop espresso maker, brews coffee by passing boiling water pressurized by steam through ground coffee. While it doesn’t produce true espresso, it creates a strong and bold coffee similar to espresso. Fill the bottom chamber with water, add coffee to the filter basket, and heat on the stove until the brewed coffee collects in the upper chamber.
